Snake Pendant - Snake Boots

Two new Charlotte places bring new, old

Fried chicken was adequate but not notable, as was a four-rib section of pork ribs (though they had a nicely thick sauce) and soft old-school string beans. The new-school items we tried – shrimp over “jambalaya grits” and Soul Food Dumplings – missed the mark considerably. The first had four small, unseasoned shrimp atop a wide but shallow pool of much-too-loose grits. The second put a mushy, confused filling of collards, crawfish, fennel, sweet potato (and more) into overcooked dumpling casings – but were served attractively, in a two-level bamboo steamer. : We had terrific mashed potatoes and collard greens, both rich and well-balanced. Fried okra arrived with an oily batter coating.
