Is going barefoot old-fashioned summer fun or something else?
I have multiple pairs of flip flops here — including my everyday flip flops and my rhinestone fancy flip flops. I think flip flops are so popular now that maybe kids are wearing flip flops instead of going barefoot. Arizona is even more flip flop crazy than Georgia I think. These folks wear flip flops literally year round and even to church. Did you know flip flops could be fancy. Are parents more afraid of stepping on stuff or is it just that flip flops are more socially acceptable. Michael thinks my feet are so rough because I was barefoot as a kid all the time. (The New York Times Well section recently ran a blog about is it healthier to run barefoot. Growing up in Georgia we would spend the whole summer barefoot.

That’s right I said HAVE TO :) . I am sure that nearly all parents with kids that are a) old enough to walk  and b) have seen one summer, will have pairs of flip flops that the kids wear and know just what I am talking about and not only... If you have your kids out in the sun and on the beach, you just have to have them wearing kids flip flops. Some parents I have met, and also parents I have read about – will not allow their kids to wear flip flops because of a belief that they are dangerous. The sandals themselves are not dangerous …but I do think that anytime kids are wearing flip flops that they should be told to not run and play as they usually would in a pair of shoes.  I think we all can recall times we have smashed our toes when running around in our flip flops (both as an adult and as kids). Just think of how much easier an unco-ordinated, or overly enthusiatic kid could cause a bit of harm and hurt a toe or fall down some stairs when running around in them....

Rhinestone Flip Flops From the Weekend - Rhinestone Flip Flops ...
 Went out looking/shopping at the markets on the weekend, and found this cool pair of rhinestone flip flips in a second hand clothing store not far from the entrance. At the toe of the sandal you can also see how there is a thread type of design on the upper side of the sole which I think looks cool too. They didn’t look very special on passing, and I though the color of them, a purple, was not going to look very good on anyone’s foot… and that’s why no-one had bought them yet that day. Another thing I liked about them was these rhinestone flip flops had the rhinestone just prominent enough to notice, but wasn’t too tacky. I also really liked how the strap was thick on one side, and thin on the other. and the purple color worked really well against the dark skin of my foot (being the tanned sun lover that I am). I was impressed. (we got to the market at about 2pm- normally too late to get any of the coolest stuff....
